A talented singer and songwriter, Christopher Simms has a passion for worship. His voice has been heard backing fellow Gospel artist B. Renee, Elder Matthew Greave, Praise Xpress and as a soloist around his hometown of the Bronx, NY. Worship Pastor at Morning Star Church located in Harlem, NY, he’s been lifting his voice and sharing his songs inspiring believers for years. Now, the award-winning psalmist is releasing a brand new recording entitled “Back To You” on May 20, 2018. The single, from the artist’s forthcoming release, Find, Follow, Fulfill, will be available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon and other digital retail music outlets.
“Back To You” recounts a low point in Christopher’s life when he stepped away from the Lord and shortly after he experienced his first of three heart attacks. Little did he know, he was actually having a heart attack over several days. The experience was a wake-up call and was the impetus for a renewed commitment to the Lord. The song, with a theme reminiscent of the parable of the Prodigal Son, will resonate with those who have strayed and returned. Find, Follow, Fulfill, a musical recollection of his life’s journey, is filled with songs of worship and praise. “Lord, I Need You”, a moving track, is one of the album’s highlights. A heartfelt ballad, the song is an earnest plea to God. “Yahweh”, another worship track, is a reminder of the
character and the nature of God. Listeners can expect to be encouraged throughout the record. The seven-track project was written entirely by the artist and is a reflection of his heart and his passion for the Savior.
A Bronx native, Christopher grew up in a family of musicians. A preacher’s kid, he played drums in church. Drawn to percussive instruments, he was he was literally dragged from behind the drums (by his sister) to try his hand at singing. Little did he know, that was the launch of his singing career. Soon after, he and his cousins started a male Gospel singing group called Sons of God and he began writing songs. Songwriting, a creative, musical outlet to share his thoughts, matured over time. As his songwriting grew, his music moved from lyrics about his life experiences to his undying love for God. Others have taken note of his talent; he recently received an award for Best Gospel/Inspirational Song of 2017 for “Lord I Need You” presented by Random Radio Podkast Show.
Simms is also honored to be a finalist for the renowned McDonald’s Gospelfest 2018. It’s his second time as a participant of the well-known Gospel music competition, but this time, he progressed to the final round. The event took place at the Newark Symphony Hall during Mother’s Day Weekend and featured artists like Bishop Hezekiah Walker & LFC, Vashawn Mitchell, Le’Andria Johnson, Jekalyn Carr, Wess Morgan and Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson. His music ministry comes down to one thing: helping others walk in their calling. “My mission is to help people understand their purpose,” says Christopher. “I want people to know that in spite of everything they go through, God still has purpose for them. Even in bad situations, God takes those things and works them out for our good. He uses our challenges to build and develop character.”
